St. Clair, Michigan – The City of St. Clair is pleased to share Jim Bier has been awarded the 2026 Planning Leadership Award by the Michigan Association of Planning, The Michigan Chapter of the American Planning Association! Congratulations Jim!
A jury of APA Michigan Chapter members reviewed the application and support material, and shared this observation:
“His contributions to zoning, parks and recreation planning, trail development, ordinance modernization, housing initiatives, and regional connectivity have produced lasting benefits for both the City of St. Clair and St. Clair County..”
Jim has been a volunteer on the Zoning Board of Appeals for over 30 years. He was an integral part of several notable projects including the Imagination Station at Greig Park in 1994, the relocation of the Municipal Building in 2019 and currently is an advocate for St. Clair Trailways.
Jim says “Looking back, I can only be grateful that my city has trusted me to provide such a wide range of service. I am also thankful for my wife Lea, who always supports and encourages me.
Something that started as a city engineer job shadow led me to the privilege of a varied education and broad set of career experiences. It is the sum total of all of this that I try to bring to the city
of St. Clair in the volunteer tasks that have been put in front of me. I look forward to the next request and the next challenge.”
