New Waste and Recycling Service

2026 Recycle Calendar

Follow the GOLD week for setting your recycle cart (yellow lid) to the curb.
Starting in February 2026, the entire city will be serviced for Recycle collection (yellow lid) on the same bi-week instead of the previous gold or green schedule for recycling. Having city-wide recycle collection on the same schedule will create predictability for residents and reduce the potential for missed collections. We understand the adjustment period will have challenges. Please email info@cityofstclair.com if your cart is not serviced as indicated on the 2026 Recycling calendar.

Waste Management will have a new Waste and Recycling Service as of January 2026. As part of this new automated service, every household will receive 2 new 96 gallon carts. One for waste (garbage) and one for recyclables.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I opt out of using the carts?

No, cart usage is a requirement of your community’s residential waste and recycling program.

The 96 gallon cart that was delivered is too big. Can I request a smaller can size?

Yes, a 64 gallon container is available. Call WM at 1-866-797-9018 to request a cart swap.

My cart is damaged. How do I get it repaired?

You can request a repair by visiting wm.com or by calling WM 1-866-797-9018

I have more trash than will fit in my container and need a second cart. Is that possible?

Residents who use the provided recycling cart rarely need more than one trash cart. However, if a second cart is a necessity, rental of a second cart is available for $8/mo. by calling WM at 1-866-797-9018.

What do I do about a large item pick up?

Bulky items are collected the first Friday of every month and can be scheduled by visiting wm.com or by calling WM at 1-866-797-9018.

How do I place my carts at the curb?

Carts must be at the curb no later than 7am on your service day. Please place carts within six feet of the roadside, at least three feet apart and three feet from any trees, poles, mailboxes and vehicles. Place the carts with the lid opening facing the street.

Is anything changing with my yard waste collection?

Yard waste should not be put into any carts and is handled the same way as it has been. Place yard waste into either brown yard waste bags or labeled yard waste containers less than 50 pounds.

A list of elligible materials for recycling can be found on Waste Managements Recycling 101 page.

Yard Waste

Waste Management’s seasonal service of collecting Yard Waste always runs on or following April 1st to the last service day on or prior to November 30th of each year.

Grass, weeds, vegetation, small branches/twigs, etc. cannot be placed in your regular trash container. Yard waste must be placed in a specified paper bag available at grocery or hardware stores or in a receptacle marked with a yard waste sticker available at City Hall or with an “X”. Yard waste placed in plastics bags cannot be collected and will be left.

Large Items

Large items such as furniture or kitchen appliances can be placed at the curb and will be collected, usually on your regular trash day. There is no additional charge for large item pick-up. We ask that you call Waste Management at 800-796-9696 to let them know you have a large item out, because they may have to send a special truck for the pick-up.

Prohibited Items

Waste Management does not accept hazardous waste or materials such as oil paint cans, motor oil, tires, propane tanks, automotive parts or construction materials.

Holiday Schedule

If a Holiday falls on Wednesday or Thursday your service will fall one day behind. The following holidays are observed: New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
