Subject: Water Service Pipe Replacement & Water Quality Reports

In compliance with revised Michigan and federal lead and copper regulations, the City of St. Clair is required to notify residents served by water service lines of unknown lead status. Annual notifications will continue until these lines are replaced or confirmed to be free of lead or galvanized previously connected to lead (GPCL).
Based on inspections completed to date, 97% have been verified as acceptable. The remaining 3% of those investigated that are not copper or plastic will be proactively replaced. In 2025, 9 of 70 service lines that were identified as “galvanized which may have been previously connected to lead” were replaced for homeowners.

Resident Notification (from July 15, 2025):
The City of St. Clair is implementing a program to replace galvanized water service lines that may have previously been connected to lead materials. This work will be completed at no cost to residents by contracted firms Erv Westrick Exc. and Delude Construction.
Please note:
• Water leaving the St. Clair Water Treatment Plant is lead-free, and water mains do not contain lead.
• All water quality standards are consistently met or exceeded, with no recorded lead levels above EPA action limits.
• No lead service lines have been identified to date; however, lines classified as “galvanized previously connected to lead” or “lead status unknown” will be replaced as a precaution.
Resident Action: No immediate action is required. This notification is not an emergency. The City is acting in accordance with state and federal guidelines to ensure continued water safety.
